For years I have been preaching the gospel that people need an hour of exercise a day - that's kids and adults alike. But we pediatricians have always known that kids are not mini-adults. So it shouldn't be a big surprise that one new study suggests kids have different exercise needs. In order to stave off future heart disease, they require more run-around time than adults. Additional studies are certainly needed, but as I read over this one, I felt a little embarrassed that I have gone along with the one-size-fits-all model of minimal exercise requirements. Oh well. Live and learn. And exercise!
